Description: The llustrated Family Bible, Containing The Old and New Testaments, &c., &c. With the Self-Interpreting and Explanatory Notes, and Marginal References, by the Late Rev. John Brown, Minister of the Gospel at Haddington, to which is Prefixed, An Introduction to the Right Understanding of the Oracles of God.Published by A. Fullarton & Co., Edinburgh, Glasgow and London. Undated, but c. 1860. This specific Fullarton edition would appear to be rather scarce - we can only identify a maximum of 9 copies listed in Worldcat's catalogue.A very good, approaching near fine, example of this substantial bible. Bound in full blackl leather with lovely blind embossed decoration with gilt border to the front. The spine has gilt decorated raised bands with a black morocco gilt title label. With mild scuffing and shelf wear, with mild corner bumping. Endpapers are feathered marble with burgundy cloth strengthening to inner hinges. Remains of label removal (probably family identification) to first pastedown. Binding is strong and firm, and spine straight. The text is near fine throughout. Clean, bright and clear, with plates in excellent condition. A few small and very occasional marginal closed tears to page edges. A few pages with light marginal spotting or finger marks, but overall a very well presented bible. It is pleasing to see that the family registry page is still present (located immediately after the end of the Old Testament). The bible was owned by the 'Comrie' family, with 5 lines of very neatly scripted entries dating between 1845 and 1873. Comrie is an old Scottish surname, originating from the area of the village of the same name in Perthshire.Gilt edges to text block are still shiny.Text in English.PLEASE NOTE: FOR ORDERS OUTSIDE THE UK, PLEASE CHECK POSTAGE PRICE WITH US FIRST AS IT MAY BE OVER THE STANDARD EBAY QUOTED RATE - DUE TO THE WEIGHT OF THE BOOKS.Weight approximately 3.26kg (unpacked).xl + 848pp.Approx Dimensions:Approximately 320mm high x 240mm wide 62mm deep.
