Description: The Horse Reared Abruptly, hurling the rider off balance at the sound of rattles. This is a hand painted rendition of my interpretation of NC Wyeth’s original painting “I Saw His Horse Jump Back Dodgin’ a Rattlesnake or Somethin’, 1905." I painted my rendition on 22”x28” canvas board pained the year of 2005. This illustrated the real cowboy’s daily work apart from the fantasy of the movies. Rattlesnakes were a constant threat to them and their animals. As they lived out in the wilderness the animals that lived there too were their adversaries, not to speak of the indigenous people that had for centuries lived there before them. They also had to survive and were protective of their homes. When I was young I always loved the thought of being a cowboy. What about you?
