Description: 1:100 Scale Hand-built Replica of Philip Johnson's The Glass House I bought this architectural model in 2015; it was hand-crafted in Italy by artist Lucio Tuzza. I am selling this beautiful, museum-grade replica as I am downsizing my collection of models and do not have the space. It has never been displayed; it has been boxed in storage for nine years. The model is crafted from resin and plastic and measures 14.5" x 9" x 4." It includes the plexiglass dust cover. While it is 9 years old, it is essentially brand new. This item currently retails for $315 on the artist's website, archilovers.com, not including shipping from Italy. Here, you can acquire it for much less! Item will be double-boxed and well-insulated to protect it from damage during transit. PLEASE NOTE THAT IF THIS MODEL DOES NOT SELL BY THE END OF THE CURRENT AUCTION, IT WILL NOT BE RE-LISTED. Ships within 48 hours of payment from the smoke-free home of an adult collector. Good luck and thanks for looking. It was designed by architect Philip Johnson as his own residence. The New York Times has called the Glass House his "signature work".[3]According to Alice T. Friedman, the Glass House may be derived from the Farnsworth House in Plano, Illinois, by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe; however, the Farnsworth House was not completed until 1951, two years after the Glass House. Johnson curated an exhibit of Mies van der Rohe work at the Museum of Modern Art in 1947, featuring a model of the glass Farnsworth House.[4] It was an important and influential project for Johnson and for modern architecture. The building is an example of minimal structure, geometry, proportion, and the effects of transparency and reflection. The estate includes other buildings designed by Johnson that span his career. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1997. It is now owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and is open to the public for guided tours, which begin at a visitors center at 199 Elm Street in New Canaan.
