Description: "The Garrett Collection Sales" is a 4 volume, 8.75"x11.25" hardcover set published by Bowers & Ruddy Galleries (Los Angeles) in conjunction with 4 auctions held between November 28-29, 1979 and March 25-26, 1981 to benefit The Johns Hopkins University. The collection focused on rare United States coins and was built up by several generations of the Garrett family beginning in the 1860s. "The combination of rarity, quality and provenance of the Garrett holding is unrivaled by any other coin collection," according to the introduction. Many of the coins broke sales records. All told the catalogs contain detailed descriptions and photos for 2,354 lots of rare coins and medals. Each volume contains between 16-24 pages showing many of the coins in color. Prices realized lists are bound in. As a bonus you'll also receive "The History of United States Coinage as Illustrated by the Garrett Collection," a 572 page, 8.75"x11.25" hardcover written by Q. David Bowers and published in Bowers & Ruddy Galleries in 1980 (this is the third printing). The books are in very good condition, without dust jackets (as issued). The faux-leather boards show a few small spots (mainly at the top of Vol. II), light scuffing. Vol. IV has a scratch down the back. "The History" has an old price sticker at back top, a small pencil mark to the first page. The other books have pencil marks on the title page.
