Description: The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks. By David A. Embury. Copyright 1948. Published by Doubleday & Company, Inc., Garden City, NY, 1948. First edition presumed, based on matching copyright and publication date. Hardcover. 4.75” x 7.75.” 372 pp. A very rare first edition of Embury’s seminal and highly renowned work in mixology – which has been referred to as the “bible” of cocktails. There is one black and white illustration. Condition: The covers have some light staining. The corners are bumped and exposed. Spine edges are lightly bumped, top and bottom. The spine has a vertical crease / dent / bump. Book leans lightly to the right. There is some laxity to the binding, and cracks may be very gently starting, but the pages are soundly holding. There is a moisture stain on the top of the text block that extends into the top margin of many of the interior pages (please see photo). There is also a small, dark stain on the side edge of the text block that extends into the very edge of a small number of pages. There are occasional stains throughout the book. Aside from the aforementioned areas, however, the pages are mostly clean. Light age tanning to pages. Small stain on back inside cover. No names, inscriptions, or bookplates.
