Description: Here are all nine volumes of the famed collection of English and Scottish Popular Ballads, sung by folk legends Ewan MacColl and A.L. Lloyd, on original 1962 U.S. Washington Records pressings, all in wonderful condition and all except two with the booklets. These are the famous collections of Child Ballads that served as inspiration for so many folk singers of the era, and were the original sources for a lot of later versions by the likes of Joan Baez, Steeleye Span, Pentangle, Doc Watson, and so on. Vol. 1 - Washington 715 - EX disc, with only a tiny scuff or two. Plays perfectly. The booklet is included. The cover has bumped corners and a few scuffs but is quite crisp and beautiful. Has the famous version of Lord Randall that so many people copied later. Vol. 2 - Washington 716 - EX disc, with some scuffs on the last track of side two that make light crackle, but not bad. Otherwise plays perfectly. Has the booklet. Bumped corners again, with the lower left being somewhat split at the bottom 3” of the spine and about 1” of the lower edge. Not too bad. Vol. 3 - Washington 717 - about the same as above but a bit better. Beautiful copy. The lower left corner is split a bit as well, but much less. Some fraying on the spine. Overall beautiful. Vol. 4 - Washington 718 - NM disc with one entirely superficial scuff. Plays perfectly. The cover is in the shrinkwrap and is also NM. No booklet, though. This was the version of the famed Georgie (Geordie) that inspired all the well-known versions later in the 60s. Vol. 5 - Washington 719 - EX disc with just a few tiny superficial scuffs. Plays perfectly. Includes the booklet. The cover has rubbed bottom corners and much less worn upper corners. Quite clean. Features the Dowie Dens O’ Yarrow that so many people later did. Vol. 6 - Washington 720 - Same as above, but less corner wear and nearly no scuffs on the disc. Plays immaculately. Vol. 7 - Washington 721 - same as above, but with a bumped upper right corner. Has the version of Scarborough Fair that Paul Simon heard. Vol. 8 - Washington 722 - NM disc, and only lightly bumped corners. Booklet. Vol. 9 - Washington 723 - NM disc. Some water damage at the bottom edge on the back of the cover, where it is splitting a bit. See photo. The upper left corner is badly rubbed. This is the only other one with no booklet. Features Down in Yon Forest, I believe the version Joan Baez heard. All just beautiful original copies.
