Sitakant Mahapatra (b. 1937) is a notable Indian poet and literary critic in Oriya as well as English. He has published over 15 poetry collections, 5 essay collections, a travelogue and more than 30 contemplative works, apart from numerous translations. His poetry collections have been published in several Indian languages. Some of his notable works include Sabdar Akash (1971) (The Sky of Words), Samudra (1977) and Anek Sharat (1981). Writers Workshop is a Calcutta, India based literary publisher founded by the poet-professor Purushottama Lal (1929-2010) in 1958. Over the next few decades it published many new authors of post-independence urban literature. Many of these authors later became important literary figures.
