Baseball signed: "Leo Durocher", "Bill Hands", "Bill Stoneman", "Chuck Hartenstein", "Billy Williams", "Randy Hundley", "Adolfo Phillips", "Don Kessinger", "Kenny Holtzman", "Al Spangler", "Fergie Jenkins", "Lee Elia", "Jose Arcia", "Ernie Banks", "Pete Mikkelson", "Ron Santo", "Glenn Beckert", "Rich Nye", “Lou Johnson” and “Pete Reiser”. Spalding Official National League baseball, Warren Giles, President. The 1968 Chicago Cubs, with Leo Durocher as manager, had a record of 84-78, finishing in third place in the National league. Hall of Famer LEO DUROCHER (1905-1991) retired among the all-time leaders in games managed (3740) and wins (2,010). ERNIE BANKS (b. 1931, HOF 1977) will always be "Mr. Cub," the most popular player the Cubs ever had. He played for the Cubs his entire career (1953-1971), retiring with 512 lifetime home runs. Sweet-swinging BILLY WILLIAMS (b. 1938, HOF 1987) quietly carved out a Hall of Fame career. He was a dependable star for 14 full seasons as a Cub. He tied major league records with five homers in two consecutive games, and four consecutive doubles in a game. In 19 Major League seasons (1965-1983), right-handed starting pitcher FERGUSON JENKINS (b. 1942, HOF 1991) won 284 games, including 6 consecutive seasons with the Chicago Cubs in which he won 20 or more games while striking out 200 or more. RON SANTO (1940-2010) played all fifteen of his Major League seasons (1960-1974) in Chicago, all but the last one with the Cubs. A 5-time Gold Glove third baseman and 9-time All-Star.
