Description: Auction description The Castle and the River: A Dutch Old Master Style Drawing Here's a very interesting drawing in sepia ink, in the manner of Dutch Old Master painter Jan Meerhoud (1633-1677), depicting a small medieval castle adjacent to a flowing river. It's very nice work, and the pen strokes are very evocative of 17th-18th century technique. There is an attribtution to Meerhoud, lower left. Dimensions are about 9 inches by 11.75 inches. Condition is fairly good, with a number of small dings and paper losses around the margins. The paper is old, without chainlines, but reminiscent of paper supports I have seen and examined that date back to the 17th century Netherlands. I can't, however, guarantee the age of the paper, so I need to offer this good drawing as a 19th century study after a 17th century model. Maybe it's much older, but that will be for you to figure out. There is lots of pleasure to be had here at a very modest price! Shipping will be $12 from France (where the drawing and I are currently located) to the U.S. And to see what else I have for sale, please click here.
