Description: "The Border Legion." The Original Drawing for the Paramount Movie Poster. 1930. The movie is a western, starring Richard Arlen and Fay Wray. Though not a great commercial success, the movie got decent reviews based on a story written by Zane Grey. This an original in-house illustration, drawn by an artist at the Paramount Studios, Hollywood. It is NOT a printed lithograph. It was a concept piece for the movie theater lobby card, and the drawing promoted Richard Arlen exclusively as the lead star. When co-star Jack Holt objected, and Fay Wray threatened to leave Paramount (which she did anyway, and then starred in King Kong three years later), they gave everyone appropriate billing and this poster was never used to promote the movie. See last photo for the actual poster Paramount Studios distributed throughout most of the US. All work is hand-original, in ink and paint. It even has the original artist knife cutouts where the logo is applied. Piece measures 15.5" x 20", and is unframed. Drawing is in excellent condition; color still bright, some light foxing and chipping on edge corner. This is an interesting, one-of-a-kind Hollywood memento, perfect for the collector, or as a gift to a Western movie buff.___________________________ Movie Synopsis: A band of outlaws known as "The Border Legion," finds the townspeople of Alder Creek, Idaho, about to hang Jim Cleve (Richard Arlen) for the killing of a miner, a crime of which one of gang is actually guilty; they rescue Cleve, and out of gratitude, he joins their gang. While they are hiding in the mountains, they kidnap a woman, Joan Randall (Fay Wray, early in her career, before King Kong), and Jim is angered when the men make advances to the girl. . . . The rest is obvious.
