Description: Well here it is... The Original 1966 The Beatles Yesterday & Today Butcher Cover First State First Press Stereo - slabbed and graded at 7.0 (= VG+ due to probable record storage though cover is NEAR MINT with original shrink under the plastic slab. What can I say? There is one other First State listing here ... a mono. Stereo copies are much rarer - experts say 10 to 1! This is a Scranton stereo press and is in in IMMACULATE CONDITION. This record is never bought to be played ... It is collected for the Cover due to the history of this very collectible, very rare and at the time controversial album. The cover was pulled before release due to the feedback from advance copy recipients and were ordered to be destroyed by Capital records until the pressing plants pressed back as they had no time to remake them before the release date so the Butcher cover was replaced with a paste over trunk cover commonly referred to as a Second State. Very few First State copies survived. The Jacksonville pressing plant DID destroy all their copies and dug a hole and buried them near the Chicago river! Only the plant manager escaped with a few of these. The other plants, Los Angeles, Scranton and Winchester pasted the new cover over but a few slipped out into the public. The record quickly sold out and word got out fast that there may be a "Butcher cover underneath their paste over". Many original presses were destroyed by consumers trying to peel the paste cover off. A few found that steaming these with a tea kettle produced an adequate result. These copies are known as Third State covers and are less rare and valuable than First or Second State copies. Good Third State peeled copies can command a hefty sum but the Holy Grail is the pure First State which is what you see here. This won't last long.... read on.... Last February I was in an auction and saw a mono copy sell for $96,000 at Heritage before the 20% buyer premium and tax so that buyer paid a minimum of 116k for a much less rare mono copy of this record. No, that record did not belong to one of The Beatles or any associate - it was simply a slabbed and graded Mono First State. if it doesn't sell here in short order I will be consigning this to their next Signature Auction so get it while you can! I figure if that record sold for 96k as a mono copy (Average is 25-50k) and Stereo copies sell for 75-115k then whoever buys this now at my price has room to make a large profit themselves if they were to sell and are getting a steal with this coveted collectible in this amazing condition. Shipping is flat rate $1000 for in person delivery with signature via courier in the USA and will be delivered within one week of payment upon agreed upon arrangement though the incoming winter storms may but should not pose any delay but please allow for a few days grace period if there is an impact due to nature. I will end this listing after the auction. I may or may not list it agin at another time depending on my own schedule and the next Heritage Signature Auction. Starting bid is $38,501. The special handling freight will be the $1000.00 additional for in person/courier delivery. Reasonable offers will be entertained. Please feel free to ask any questions! Thank you!
