This work was respected within the trade, and earned Callaway a position at the Landig College of Mortuary Science. After the book's success, Callaway also served as director of research for the Undertakers’ Supply Co. It's possible Callaway's work influenced the approach to funeral arrangements following its publication: "Obtainable from the proprietors of The Undertakers' Journal was the book The Art of Funeral Directing written by the American, CF Callaway.
