Description: Auction description The Music Lesson: Charming French 19th Century Colored Drawing This little 19th century colored drawing, most likely from a French hand, recalls the Dutch Old Master depictions of slightly amorous music lessons. In this case the teacher is a young man, and his pupil is a well dressed young woman tootling into a recorder. The teacher is gesturing to the girl to indicate the way she should finger her instrument. The flirtatious aspect around the shape of the instrument and the girl's efforts to master it is quite present, which perhaps explains why the other young lady on the left, probaby a dark-skinned servant, appears to be stifling a giggle. Lots of amusement here! Dimensions of the paper sheet are about 5.25 inches by 5.5 inches. There is some paper toning and a crease on the left, well away from the picture area. A charming acquisition, and I'm starting it off at a modest price point. Shipping within the U.S. will be $6. And to see what else I have for sale, please click here.
