Description: Presented is a superb Thai or Siam sterling silver box made or retailed by Alex Company. The top of the box is beautifully engraved and enameled in black, niello enameling, with a terrific scene of Thailand’s royal barge, Suphannahong. This barge, also known as the “Golden Swan” or the “Phoenix”, was built in 1911 during the reign of Rama VI. The 46 meter barge is carved from a single trunk of teakwood and ornamented with gold lacquer and glass jewels. The bow is made to resemble a mythical swan, or Hong, with a crystal ball and tassel dangling from her mouth. There is a golden pavilion at the center of the barge to house the King and his Royal family. The box has a hinged lid with a silver thumbpiece at the front. The interior of the box is lined with wood. The box was most likely made in the 1930s or 1940s. The underside of the box is marked Alex Co. Sterling Made in Siam. The condition is excellent. The enameling is in fabulous shape. There are no dents, no splits, no monograms, no monogram removals, no breaks, and no repairs. The box measures 3 5/8 inches square and 1 3/8 inches tall. The weight is 268.8 grams or 9.4 ounces. Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
