Description: EXTRA INFORMATION ABOUT THIS ITEM & NOTES OF INTEREST: Original hickory handle! Pretty much full original length overall. This was the first year (ca1918) model of this “new” style of edge tool introduced by the nationally famous toolmaker TH Witherby - a TRUE pocket chisel! This was where the style began for Witherby - the classic “light bulb” type handle (to the telltale shape) - a terrific little gem of a pocket tool and certainly a most welcome addition to the overall line of edge tools from a century+ (ago) for this maker. Has very comfortable hand-feel with excellent control & super-handy size (roughly 8”) - can’t be beat!I can say that this example is: Fine+ (at minimum) -- and I DO say that critically. This old tool has seen minimal use - and clearly has never been abused. I pulled it out of long term storage a couple of weeks ago and treated it to a proper cleaning and fresh edge - the cutter is sharp. Plus I carefully refinished the hickory handle (which is original to the tool) - the leather strike cap is in excellent condition - it just needed some fresh oil finish which I took care of as well. This 7/8” blade width is one of the trickiest sizes to find in this model by TH Witherby - they don’t show up very often and especially not in this size & condition combo. So I’ve priced this item quite accordingly; general scarcity & overall condition.
