I think it is as fine a piece of research and writing as we have seen in Mormon Studies in quite some time. I have never seen the nuances of the temple's history portrayed with such skill. I think few understand how easily the temple and its associated rites could have, without the skill and insight of Brigham Young in particular, slipped into obscurity and even oblivion as our tradition adapted to the new environment of early Utah.
