Ordered and installed one each type 26 and type 71A tubes. Replaced RF filament, plate circuit bypass and speaker coupling capacitors. Replaced deteriorated antenna choke with three 1 mH inductors, wired in series. Replaced No. 1 and No. 2 grid resistors, detector grid leak resistor, RF/1 st AF bias resistor, and two powersupply resistors. Replaced voltage-dropping light bulb with power resistor. Replaced missing power cord. Synchronized the three tuning capacitors. Replaced hardened rubber washer on brass fine-tuning knob. Tightened loose screws. Replaced deteriorated felt in feet with rubber grommets. Cleaned volume control and power switch. Removed dust and dirt as best as possible. Filled in missing white ink on knobs as best as possible. Provided antenna wire. Trimmed and tinned speaker wire ends. Torn Speaker cloth; replaced This is an earlier specimen of this model, circa 1927-1928.Wavelength was more commonly used than frequency in this radio’s era. (The two are inversely related, higher frequencies having shorter wavelengths.) Thus, the tuning knob (which is not calibrated to eitherwavelength or frequency) will work “backward” from modern expectation; the higher-frequencystations are tuned at the lower numbered part of the knob. Also, tuning capacitor plates of this period were not yet configured to provide linear tuning action, thusthe high-frequency end of the band is relatively compacted compared to the low end, which waspredominantly used in the early broadcast era, 1921-forward.Unusually, all six stages of the circuit used in this model are always on at full gain. The volume control isactually an antenna shunt. (In modern audio equipment the gain control is in an early audio stage.)The added tubes are in the far-left and far-right sockets. The 26 is used; the 71A is NOS.
