This clay is often referred to as Purple clay. This particular teapot has a clay body that looks like a rich dark chocolate. The design motif is that of segments of bamboo, with leaf accents on the side, and a handle and spout that are patterned after the bamboo plant. The bamboo design is used in a tasteful reserved manner. This teapot has a two cup capacity, making it perfect to be used for personal use. There is a stamp on the bottom, but we have not connected it to a specific artist or maker. This teapot does not have a modern filter, it has a series of concentric perforated holes in the sidewall into the spout. This teapot is not glazed, the clay body is fired to an almost vitreous state that allows the teapot to take on some of the characteristics of the tea being brewed, but remain watertight.
