The front cover of the book has some stains and wear, especially at edges. The back cover is in similar condition with more fading. The spine shows fade and wear at top and bottom; frayed along edges. There is some wear along edges and at corners. The binding is still fairly tight; the back hinge has some hinge paper applied for added strength. There are lending library stamps on front and rear end pages and on one page in the middle. The pages are clean and straight with occasional small stains or foxing. The page edges are clean with a little age wear. Top edge is dyed red and shows some wear. 4 of the original 5 interior illustration pages are present. The original front flap of the dust jacket is glued inside front cover.Dust Jacket is a nicely done Bruce Wood facsimile enclosed in new Brodart protector. Photos show details of what book and jacket look like, so be sure to view them. FOR COLLECTORS: The 1st edition of this title was ERB, Inc.'s third book when they did not yet put "First Edition" on the copyright page. There was only one print run of the first edition and, like most of the others by ERB, Inc., it had blue covers with orange/red lettering. The unsold copies were remaindered by Grosset & Dunlap (“G&D” appearing at base of spine; “ERB, Inc.” on title page) as a “mixed edition”. Joe Lukes' Bibliography of ERB titles published by Grosset & Dunlap identifies 5 G&D reprints from 1934 to 1937. ERB, Inc. then reprinted this title in 1940 as one of their seven reprinted titles and then again in 1948 as part of their massive 22 title reprint. These are the only hard cover editions through the 1970s.This book is the first edition, first printing by ERB, Inc. A good copy for collectors. I list several Burroughs books for sale every week.
