Description: Lesley Taos Art Association Artist Lesley Brown Watercolor Trees in the Woods 76 BiographyBorn in Surrey, England, Lesley Brown grew up in Oxford where her father, William McDougall, was "Wilde Reader in Psychology". During the time of her studies at Oxford she won several prizes for drawing. Later she attended classes at the studio of Matthew Webb.In 1920 Lesley moved with her family to the United States where she entered the Boston School of Fine Arts. The succeeding years were filled with marriage, rearing a family, a move to New Hampshire, and studies with Eliot O'Hara Thurn at East Gloucester, Massachusetts.In March, 1945, Lesley moved to New Mexico. When the Taos Art Association was founded in 1952, she was one of the original members, and she was an exhibitor in the first show of the Stables Gallery April 8, 1954.Since that time, Lesley has participated in numerous traveling shows throughout the Southwest U.S. and Mexico. Marian Miller of the Phoenix Gazette described her work: "a sweeping feeling of vitality...freely, broadly stroked...deep reds against subtle greens with the relief of autumn trees".
