Description: This antique Tankei (Duan) inkstone is a really unique piece. The color is more akin to a thick chocolate. On the front side, the lychee fruit beloved by Yang Guifei is depicted. On the back, a turtle is floating in a pond against the backdrop of a full moon. The round greenish-gray spot of the stone was skillfully left as a moon. Close observation reveals hairline patterns on it, resembling those of a real moon. Behind the turtle is an engraving of four Chinese characters which read "Yuewei Caotang,” the cottage of Ji Yun, who was a prominent scholar-official representing the Qing Dynasty. The inscription details how Ji Yun acquired this inkstone and reflects his thoughts. This antique Chinese Tankei inkstone could be one of Ji Yun's famous inkstone collections.
