Early in the 16th century, the Spanish Queen sent her skilled craftsmen across the Atlantic to the New World. They created Talavera Pottery in Puebla, Mexico, where the richest region of natural clay deposits is found. Over 450 years ago, Diego de Talavera, a Spanish craftsman, arrived in Mexico with Hernan Cortez. Mr. Talavera taught the Indians this ceramic technique. Soon, the creativity of the Indians flowed, and Talavera became one of the main features of Mexican folk art. The "Talavera" process gives each piece its own individual identity. Talavera's elegance and quality of workmanship are recognized throughout the world. These pieces are handmade in Puebla, Mexico. They have never been used and are in excellent condition.
