TAIYO (TYCO) Edge RC Hovercraft – vintage, circa 2002

Description: Awesome vintage RC hovercraft. These were some of the coolest tech toys released in the late 1980's through the early 2000's. A little history here: TAIYO (Japan) and TYCO (USA) were partners. Both toy companies designed and manufactured many of the golden era of RC products we know and love today. Initially, TYCO was reluctant to develop a RC toy line. So it was actually TAIYO who released the first of what would later be a whole line of successful RC products. After the TAIYO Jet Hopper proved to be popular and commercially successful then TYCO came onboard and started also selling RC products. And TAIYO actually produced some of TYCO's RC toys. That's why you'll see identical designs from both companies but with the name of the product, colors and overall design details slightly varied or different. Anyway, this TAIYO Edge hovercraft is virtually identical to the TYCO Typhoon. I've collected several of these (TAIYO and TYCO) and noticed the TAIYO vintage RC products are often in better condition - probably because TYCO was the more popular toy line here in the USA and those tend to show a bit more wear. So, in my opinion the TAIYO RC's make better collectibles because the condition is typically better and some of the TAIYO color options are very cool.Anyway, copyright on the box says 2002 and the original price tag is still on the box (“$80.00”). This is 20+ years old and runs great! It's in pristine condition, well maintained and the battery compartment is free from rust or corrosion. The rubber skirt is often the part which goes bad on these vintage hovercrafts but this one is in near mint condition - no tears, rips or damage at all. The only visible wear is light surface scratches and one of the decals on the front is starting to peel away slightly. Everything is original - comes with the hovercraft, controller, box, 1 battery and a wall adapter/charger (note, the charger is not showing in the photos but it's included as well).
