The Map first appeared in Speed’s Theatre of the Empire of Great Britaine is one of the worlds great cartographic treasures. Published in 1611/12, it marked the first time that comprehensive plans of English and Welsh counties and towns were made available in print. Includes elaborate views of Richmont and Nunsuch and 7 coats of arms. London appears on the Thames, just to the left of Nonsuch castle.John Speed (1551 or '52 - 28 July 1629) was the best known English mapmaker of the Stuart period.
