The smooth and tactile border, along with the raised bead line, adds a touch of sophistication and draws the eye into the picture. These frames are truly a work of art that enhances the beauty of any image they hold ~ ... this frame will originally have been designed to hold a notable head & shoulders portrait, or perhaps a hunting scene, the French still like their hunting sadly, this frame is certainly the work of a master carpenter & framer you can still very much see the framers old nails in the sides at the corners ~ This frame will suit a certain picture OR perhaps an image of a loved one; it is certainly a frame that will grace any wall ~ it would also make a fabulous mirror! ... this frame will suit a special picture OR perhaps an image of a loved one; certainly, a frame to grace any wall ~ Thank you for looking ~ If you have any questions please ask ~ Condition In Very Good condition; frame is completely sound, but most of the brass inlay slivers are missing (see photos 6,7,14 & 15) I guess over the many years they just worked loose, to my mind, this doesn't matter too much because what we are left with are lovely geometric grooves as with a 'reeded' frame & I prefer to see this as a happy happenstance which ultimately adds to the charm & character of this unusual & rare frame; together with the odd minor age commensurate ding to the border, but in truth nothing particularly noteworthy ~ Super strong corners ~ Age commensurate wear ~ With NO major damages OR losses ~ Please refer to the photographs ~ They accurately represent the very good antique condition ~ Any significant damages OR losses are always shown in the photos ...
