Description: Scarce, San Francisco Watchmaker, J.W. Tucker Fusee, 1850 to 1860 John William Tucker ~ Born 1823 in New YorkHad shop locations at 101 & 105 Montgomery & 128 - 131 Kearneyin San Francisco, California from 1850 to 1874 whenhe apparently died at the very young age of 51 years old? There are rumors that his shop may have been open as late as 1882,after his death, but most of the information available is sketchy at best... This is an absolutely beautifully executed & finished Fusee watch movement with several things that were taken to extreme during its manufacture somewhere between 1850 & 1860. There are 18 jewels, most of which are generously oversizedfor the function they serve, but they do bring a dramatic visual effectinto play when examining the movement. Both ends of the balance staff have Diamond cap Jewels as well. All of the steel componentsin this movement have a mirror finish. It also has an unusual stop feature that I don't quite understand, but it's there if you need it. This is cased in an American made 58 mm Keystone watch case companyCoin edge, coin silver case with 4 hinge points. Hinges are on the front& back covers + another on the inside back dust cover & the movement is hinged as well. See photos, very cool to see it unfold!Everything fits beautifully & all covers snap shut tightly. The push button at the top of the pendant opens the back coverto expose the keyhole for winding the watch. A very strong thumb nail or a case opening devise is required to open the hinged bezel for access to the setting arbor. This watch has been in my safe for over 40 years. It is running nicely, but should probably be serviced before putting it back into everyday use. Please ask any questions you may have before purchasing this itemas it is being sold without any expressed or implied warranty beyond the photos & descriptions in this listing. Thanks for Lookin!
