Description: Sterling Silver Georgian punch/soup ladle from the 18th Century. Made in London in 1788. The London assay office is the oldest in England and dates from 1598 in terms of hallmarks for silver. This assay office had been marking gold since the 1080's. This particular piece has the fluted bowl which is way more elegant than than the simpler "spoon" finish. George the Third was King of England from 1760 to 1820, the longest reigning male monarch in English history. He was also the first English King born in England. Of course he gave his name to the era. Why not add something unique, stylish and useful to your table service. One negative is that there is some evidence that the piece has been repaired where the bowl attaches to the handle. I don't know what this does to value so let's make it 50% of where it should be listed. Probably happened to a lot of them over the years. 4 ounces sterling.
