However, due to the slow delivery and sometimes unwillingness of the central government, there was a chronic shortage of small cash. In the late 1700s and early 1800s, the local colonial governments resorted to making what became known as "Bonks", crude lumps of cut copper. not surprisingly this led to inflation. CARE AND STORAGE Old coins and banknotes are unique and irreplaceable treasures. Before having any ideas about attempting to clean them, please do your research. What you do you cannot undo! Even water can change the way they look forever. So please please please before doing anything read, watch videos, multiple if necessary as different people can have different opinions and most importantly the coins are not the same (just because cleaning one kind of bronze coins in a specific way is ok, it doesn’t mean it will be fine for all bronze coins and so on). So just be careful. As for storage, there are many good options available, just try to keep in mind that whatever you end up choosing should be acid-free and pvc-free, as normal paper and plastic have chemicals on the surface which can and will damage coins and banknotes if they stay in contact for a long time.
