The 1982 AVRI " American Vintage Re-Issue " has now become the next collectable Stratocaster with prices running 4-10k. These models saved the Fender guitar company during the buyout of CBS at the Fullerton plant. Fender used Plain enamel 42awg gauge, 187 diameter with Alnico 5 magnets. The first 500 sets had White Top with Red Bottom Bobbin Flatware which make them rare and even more rare Fender also made 200 sets of White Top with Grey Bottom bobbin Flatware pickups before changing to the all black Flatware. White was the stock factory pickguard. These have become my biggest sellers on all 3 of my selling sites with 5 star reviews and 100% perfect reviews. I build my pickups the old school way and I only specialize in Fender Stratocaster Single coil pickups and for years now my hand wound vintage tone pickups, magnifies the harmonics, the incidentals, the upper octaves, the fifths and the relationship of the pick to index finger strikes while maintaining strong sustained fundamental tone and real clarity. Most of my favorite Vintage Fender pickups have a little bulge in the middle and not the flat sides you see in CNC machined pickups. I added the bulge to replicate my vintage pickups. You can check out my youtube channel at Mie Music Jobe to see my step by step builds. Be sure to like and click on notifications for the upcoming interviews I have planned. The main reason Fender Vintage guitars are so sought after is the Tone. That Tone came from Hand Wound pickups. Not many builders are winding the AVRI pickups . The correct spec Flatware is very hard to come by. Fender in 1998 changed to Formvar wire and is still what is used on the current 57/62 pickups. I use the correct Vintage 42 awg gauge Plain Enamel coil wire with Vintage push back Lead cloth wire. 1982 was the first year for the AVRI 57/62 pickups. Even though Fender had been selling them in a single only package. The 57 model had a maple fretboard and the 62 had a rosewood fretboard. Part # 99-2043-000, 1997 was the last year for the Plain Enamel wire and in 1998, Part# 099-2117-000 changed to Formvar which is accurate for a 57/62 Strat. All electronics are Fender/ CTS., also comes with Fender Aged White accessory kit including Pickup covers, all 3 knobs, 5-way tip, Tremolo arm tip and tremolo back cover, also comes with a new guitar jack. My pickups are made to last, and step by step assembly is included. My pickups are the result of listening to my vintage guitar collection, online research, and taking apart a bucket full of DEAD vintage Fender pickups, Studying them and painstakingly unwinding them and taking very detailed notes and videos. This is how I came up with my proprietary way of hand winding my pickups. I started BETA testing in 2020 on every type of neck and body wood made. Plus I tested on Tube and solid state amps, pedals, digital devices, and software in my recording studio MIE MUSIC, which I opened in 1999, with fantastic results. I use USA Remington wire and only use the top USA suppliers. These sold out during the holiday's and it took months to get the inventory back to do the next build and I was also finally able to get the correct Grey bottoms and just finished building them. They are the same specs. Here is my step by step builds. 1) I install the Alnico V rod magnets into the flatware bobbins using a jig on a hand Arbor press.2) I dip the unwound completed Flatwork with magnets installed into lacquer. Dry for 24 hours.3) Then I Hand/Scatter to the coil to my proprietary way of winding.4) Solder pickup lead wires with Vintage push back cloth cover wire.5) Wax dip with 80% paraffin, 20% beeswax at 140-150 degrees for perfect response and clarity. 6) I wrap the coil with Fabric tape for 4 important reasons. #1 It cuts down the chances of damaging the coil when changing pickup covers. #2 Helps stop high gain monophonic feedback. #3 Keeps out moisture, just an added protection and expense of building a long lasting reliable pickup. #4 and the most important to me ,Some guitarist while recording will sit in the control room with the amp in the ISO room., while others like to sit or stand next to their amp . I started to notice that most Gibson guitars did not have that high squeal and after checking those guitars they had fabric tape on the pickups. So I put some fabric tape on a few of my Strats and was floored that this worked. Back in the 50's there was really no need for it because the amps was not as high powered as todays amps. There is no change in the tone .7) Charge magnets once sold.8) I Test the final pickup readings on a LCR DE-5000 meter. This LCR meter has an USB output so I can save each pickup I have made or sold in Microsoft Excel. Average testing +/- 5% ,Neck: 5.70k / 2.48 Henries . RWRP Middle: 5.75k / 2.43 Henries. Bridge: 5.80k / 2.53 Henries. Averaging 5.65k to 6.00k . Temperature and humidity can affect readings .I have been blessed to have owned some of Fenders best vintage instruments and still own much more than I need. I have a bucket full of DEAD Fender pickups and started taking them apart to find the issue. I found most of the time the coil wire had rubbed a bare spot from touching the rod magnets. By dipping the bobbin in lacquer before winding this should resolve this issue of the coil wire rubbing directly on the Rod Magnets making these pickups long lasting. I have installed my pickups in my partcasters and builds and find them highly comparable to my vintage collection. I am receiving great reviews and feedback from all the guitar players currently using my pickups. I have owned and tried just about every pickup on the market so I knew I had to build a great pickup and my pickups have been tested on tour and in the recording studio. The work has been done , so install and you will have complete NIRVANA for recording and playing live. Thank you for looking and supporting a small USA business. MIE MUSIC " Music is Everything "
