Known for his explosive athleticism and flashy playing style, Francis made a significant impact during his time in the league. After playing college basketball at the University of Maryland, Francis declared for the 1999 NBA Draft, where he was selected as the second overall pick by the Vancouver Grizzlies. However, he was immediately traded to the Houston Rockets, the team with which he would make his mark. In his rookie season (1999-2000), Francis quickly established himself as a force to be reckoned with, averaging 18.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 6.6 assists per game. He was named the NBA Rookie of the Year, becoming the first Rocket to receive the honor since Hakeem Olajuwon. Francis's dynamic playing style and highlight-reel dunks made him a fan favorite and earned him the nickname "Stevie Franchise." Francis spent three seasons with the Rockets (1999-2002) and continued to impress, earning three consecutive All-Star selections from 2002 to 2004. During this time, he showcased his scoring ability, averaging over 20 points per game in each of those seasons. Francis also displayed his versatility by contributing in various statistical categories, including rebounds and assists. In 2004, Francis was traded to the Orlando Magic, where he spent two seasons. He continued to put up solid numbers, averaging 19.6 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game in his first season with the Magic. However, injuries and off-court issues affected his performance in his second season, leading to his departure from Orlando. Over the remainder of his NBA career, Francis played for the New York Knicks and the Houston Rockets once again. Injuries hampered his playing time, limiting his impact on the court.
