This specific ball was pitched in Strasburg's GAME 1, 2014 NLDS start vs the SF Giants on Oct 3rd in Washington DC. Strasburg would pitch a strong game but the Giants would eventually win, 3-2. This specific ball was used in the top of the 2nd inning - pitched by Strasburg (97 MPH fastball) to Giants outfielder HUNTER PENCE, who would could the ball off of the screen. The ball would then be removed from play and subsequently authenticated. Authenticated balls such as this are sent mid-game to sale to the public, and are sold by the team. The authentication is input by the on-site MLB authenticators, who apply the holograms and enter the details of the play. Authentications can be verified through the MLB.com site.
