Description: Beautiful Alfred Stellmacher Austrian Teplitz Pitcher, c. 1859 - 1897 with Snake handle This is a pretty elegant pitcher vase. It has a nice shape and is decorated with lovely pastel colors and with great gold accents. It is marked on the bottom Stellmacher Amphora Habsburg ware Austria. Teplitz pitcher with heavy enameled gold outlining vivid florals. The pitcher has a wide mouth opening and beautiful decorative handle. There is a gold gilded snake wrapped around the handle. Size: The pitcher stands 9" tall. Detail Description:This beautiful early Amphora pitcher is hand painted in such a pretty floral design over a light pinkish cream matte finish. The pitcher itself features low relief embossed flowers, scrollwork and attractive ornate gold handle with Rococo style snake wrapped around the handle adding to its charm. The artist chose for the front, beautiful florals as the main design, showing various flowers in yellow , lilac, and shades of greens, accenting in gold relief. The back side has a pretty yellow flower with dainty leaves. The colors of the flowers with the stylized snake handle is enchanting. Gold is effectively used for highlighted accents throughout the design. The vase creates interesting shadows throughout with heavy sculpted relief areas. Condition: The pitcher is in excellent condition. No chips, dings or nicks. Hand painted florals show no signs of wear. This is a very early piece, so incredible condition for the age. The gilded snake shows minor wear to gilding - that is the only thing I find which could be considered an issue, almost unnoticeable, and does not detract from how well this piece displays. This vase has no other apparent cracks or crazing. Maker: Stamped "A. Stellmacher Habsbourg-Ware Austria " Blue Backstamp "Stellmacher Habsburg Ware Austria" of Alfred Stellmacher Imperial & Royal Porcellain Manufactory, Turn-Teplitz, Bohemia, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Alfred Stellmacher was the father of Amphora. It's partners were his former employees and his son Eduard. The Amphora factory opened in 1892, just two years before Alfred Stellmacher retired. The stamp on the bottom dates the vase approximately from 1859-1897 This pitcher so beautifully painted and gilded with a decoration is very rich and elegant . The various elements outlined in gold pronounced relief would make a handsome one for your collection.
