CLICK FOR MOIRE VIDEO Use as paper only, laminate to plastic, do as you like! PRICE TO INCLUDE: Set of 8 papers to match TOS series episodes and types (Alpha, Beta, Zeta ect.). Delivered Price Includes Tracked Shipping. 3D EFFECTS: You will need to purchase the clear Moire from the Click-Link above and overlay the moires for desired 3D effect. Requires experimentation on the part of the builder. Visit my YouTube's. For a motion or static Hero Alpha effect (Wand or Stopwatch-Motor) use two of the patterns seen in the lower-right corner of listing image; one on card-stock and one on my transparency plastic. Abutt the inner solid black circles to get the effect. The Centered Moire should be the spinning on (aka the clear one). For a static Kappa Hero effect use the pattern in the upper-left corner. Installed views for your reference, not a part of SALE. VISIT MY STORE ON EBAY, I have the metal T-Jet Knobs, Face-Plates, Jewels and, much much more Too CLICK LINK TO CLEAR TRANSPARENCY MOIRE SUGGESTION ON HOW TO DO THE SPINNERS: The most special part of a Hero Communicator or Tricorder (fyi the Tricorder Moire used on the show never spun) is the spinning Moire Pattern, created from overlapping the so two of the patterns as seen in the lower right corner of my eBay listing and set them apart at 45 degrees by half the width (in other words put the solid-central-moons at 45 degrees till you see the pattern of the Master Replicas spinning pattern appear. It is suggested to put a sheet of Dura-Lar distributed by Grafix (as in the next paragraph) in-between the spinner and fixed patterns. Material Note: While the real Set-Used transparency is 0.020 inches thick - and many replica Moire rings are now made for this specific thickness, my listed transparency is 0.005 inches thick If you need to add the extra .015 inches, we recommend an inexpensive durable clear material called Dura-Lar distributed by Grafix available on eBay in an 18 inch x 24 inch size. Use the Duralar as a floating spacer between the spinning transparencies/paper and transparency. For Communicators; The very centers, where so much of the rotation action takes place, the Moire has 120 radiating lines that remain separated right down to abutting the black-dots. You may see some random assorted spacing imperfections near the rotation axis. These imperfections may be seen with magnification. However, once two are stacked and rotating, they completely disappear. For all applications: The underside of the bottom layer can also be made from a transparency print instead of my eBay listed Paper Moires. If using transparencies for a full Hero look, the bottom transparency will need to be colored a warm white to simulate the Kromekote cardboard (the actual cardboard type used on the Set-Props). Several methods can be employed; but we have found spray-painting to be extremely effective. What works with great success is Rust-Oleum Gloss White Enamel. Once completely dry, it adheres to the plastic as if part of the material, resisting even scraping with a fingernail. Krylon Fusion For Plastics spray paint does just as well. Painting the surface that has the texture and printing on it will create the absolute sharpest image. Kromekote's cardboard white is warm white, and we have found the white-painted film has nearly the same cream-like hue. Gluing to the painted side a piece of white cardstock (using an art spray-mount or photo glue stick) completes the item. All products mentioned here are designed to endure years without discoloration. You are the prop builder so experiment and check twice. Test spray all suggeted paints. Handle everything with care so you do not smudge your new Moire. CLICK BELOW FOR:MY YouTube CHANNEL Some Star Trek Prop History For Inquiring Minds: Most of these Prop Makers and Technicians have passed-on. Below are old-timer accounts of convention conversations before conventions were really a fad. (all these are therefore 2nd hand stories) The persons quoted worked for; Desilu ®, NBC ®, Paramount ® & Gene Mr. Bob Stone was Star Trek's machinist and made all the metal prop parts for all three seasons of the show. Parts were made to order for each episode as in those times (the 1960's) as machining was done by hand and there was no advantage to making short runs (and no studio funding either). Each episode had a specific budget. Speaking of budgets, Bob relied on his Star Trek friend Robert Archer (VP of Budgeting for the show) in getting a little leeway on the $ so he could do the best possible job. According to Bob there was no magic drum of Phaser Nozzles and every job was a mad-dash to meet the filming deadlines. Because parts were made only to order, parts varied quite a bit. These variations can be seen in all the surviving examples of TOS hand props from Phaser to Communicators and Tricorders. Sometimes it was not that a new design was needed but rather that when one Wings it from a sketch, in a hurry using what is on-hand, you get an unintended-new-version of something (in the 1960's the TV audience never could see that). Robert Archer and Bob Stone worked closely together so when the show was canceled suddenly in season three, Robert Archer ended up with a nice collection of hand props. Richard Heimer made the molds for hand props. He also did all the casting and forming. This included; Vacuum form bucks, Fiberglass molds and urethane molds. Again, according to him most work is done in the normal Hollywood maddening rush. He shared with his convention friends that there were many molds made from molds when the production schedule demanded this. He also shared that when the show ended he rescued the molds from being discarded by putting them in his garage. James Ruggs (b. 1919) was the director of special effects for the show. He handled and repaired many of the props on-set. When the show was canceled in season three he rescued many hand props and even some models from the scrap heap. Dick Ruben, Prop & Art Assistant on the show, got his Set-Used Klingon disruptor from James. Mr. Ruggs held on to his rather large Star Trek collection for many years. It is widely known that Greg Jein got his Holy-Grail Hero Phaser from James. In closing a nod to Mr. Ruck, a prop technician, who reported that he repaired some hand props hundreds of times as they were often damaged during filming. He had also shared that the fiberglass Mid-Grade's, and some other props often used basswood strips between the seams to establish uniform dimensions. Watch some YouTube Star Trek TOS bloopers to see what he was talking when it comes to repairs and hand props flying apart.
