Description: This multiple word meanings card game, with a St. Patrick's Day theme, is adorable! It is brand new and in excellent condition! I laminated the materials for durability! This game comes from a smoke free home. I received this set at an elementary school, Language Arts inservice for teachers. It consists of a directions card that measures 7.25" x 6.25" and 42 cards that measure 2.5" x 2.5". The direction card has an outside border of dark green and an inside border of green. Across the top are strung light and dark green balls. In the bottom right-hand corner is a yellow pocket that is stitched, in black, around the outside. On the pocket is a black pot of gold. Below the image is a loop of stitching. In the lower left-hand corner is a green pocket, with the same stitching as the yellow one, but with an image of a red-bearded leprechaun in a green top hat with black band and yellow buckle. This card as a set of 5-step directions that alternate in the colors of green and yellow. There are 18 yellow, stitched-pocket word cards that are decorated with a St. Patrick's Day image (smiling shamrock, green derby with a light green shamrock, sitting leprechaun bear, piece of gold, black pot of gold, face of a red-bearded leprechaun in a green top hat with black band and yellow buckle). There are 18 green, stitched-pocket word cards that are decorated with the same images. There are 3 yellow, stitched-pocket direction cards and 3 green, stitched-pocket direction cards. To set up this game, the direction card is laid out in the middle of the playing area. All of the cards are mixed up and put, face down, in a draw pile. Players then take turns drawing the first card from the deck. If they pick a pocket card with a word and image, they read the word on the card. Then, they must give at least 2 definitions for the word. If they do so correctly, they get to keep the card. If not, the card is put at the bottom of the deck. If a player picks a specialty card, he she follows the direction on the card and then places it in a discard pile. The player who has the most cards, at the end of the game, is the winner! This game can be used with 2 or more children. It can also be used by an individual child, but the direction cards would be removed from the deck. The same directions would be followed as above. An individual child could keep track of his/her score, each time he/she plays, with a goal of trying to better the score each time. Variations to this game might include not only giving 2 or more meanings for a card, but also using the words in sentences to go along with the meanings. The direction cards can also be placed at the bottom of the deck, rather than discarded, to make the game even more fun! This game would make a wonderful addition to a 1st or 2nd grade classroom to be used during Literacy Centers around St. Patrick's Day! It would also be great to have in a household with young children! I am hoping to find it a good home.
