Description: [Some Account] Of London, [by Thomas Pennant]. London: Printed for Robert Faulder, 1790. First edition. (Title page reads only Of London, but later editions were titled Some Account of London.) Rebound in quarter calf over marbled paper-covered boards, remnants of earlier spine laid down, marbled endpapers. vi, [1], 439, [8] pp. Complete with engraved title page and twelve plates (one folding), including frontispiece. Light rubbing and wear to exterior. The earlier spine remnants are chipped at the edges, as is the label. Some dampstaining visible at top of frontispiece and title page at the gutter (and visible at the top of the textblock through ~ p. 100, although the stain doesn't appear visible on the pages themselves). Pennant's name inked to title page. Title page and pp. iii-vi with small (around a quarter-inch) closed tear at fore-edge. Pp. v-vi appears to be mounted on a stub at the gutter. Small closed tear at fore-edge of the binder's instruction leaf. Some scattered light foxing, with occasionally heavier foxing, and some offsetting from the plates and occasional smudges. The folding plate of Aldersgate has been remounted on a new sheet, although it shows evidence of wear, chips, and tears at the folds, as well as a longer closed tear.
