Works great as a hope chest or really, for anything you need to use it for. This chest is solid pine with hand-peeled log trim for a beautiful rustic piece of furniture. We use old fashioned draw knives to peel all our logs with a strip-peeled look that is unique to the western montana log furniture. We choose to work with lodgepole pine as it grows naturally in the forests of NW Montana and is known for its superior strength to weight ratio. It is also straighter, thus making it easier to work the raw wood into the highest quality furniture possible. Our lodge pole pine is harvested in the Kootenai National Forest via a very selective process. Skilled woodsmen select each tree with an attentive eye toward the quality, straightness and size of each specimen. After felling, each piece is hand carried to the road to ensure both the tree and the environment remain unharmed. Then each log is hand peeled, using the skip-peel method where some of the inner bark is left on, creating a beautiful rustic piece of furniture for your bedroom. A great plus with any of our rustic log furniture is that any nicks or scratches can easily be covered with a little sandpaper and a dab of whatever finish is on the furniture.
