Description: Scarce Find!! Up for sale is a Very Nice to Fine overall condition factory original Vintage Smith & Wesson 686 Barrel Assembly in 6 Inch Length with highly-desirable (and Seldom-Seen) Factory-Pinned Patridge Style Front Sight Blade. The revolver that this full-underlug Barrel originated from was a Model 686 No Dash, manufactured in Late 1983 / early 1984. Regarding condition, there are a few light to moderate handling marks, small nicks and minor scratches present, but this Barrel Assembly is in overwhelmingly nice condition considering its age. It has escaped being subject to any major or offensive scratches, dings or detractions that are objectionable. The Locking Lug and its Spring are functional and responsive. The rifling is decent, the bore is bright and shiny and the crown is free from blemishes. At the rear of the Barrel, the Forcing Cone and the "mounting twists" are nicely intact, and there is no sight of any evidence of corrosion anywhere on this assembly. At the Front, the Crown is intact, and the Front Sight Blade - although does show some edge wear and a few minuscule nicks - is in great shape, considering the Front Sights on these longer-barreled revolvers really did tend to get dinged up often. On top, the Anti-Glare Serrations are in very nice to fine condition with few detractions to the serrations, and the Anti-Glare Bead-Blasted surfaces exhibit only a few small to faint rub marks and nicks. As per some of the more notable handling marks, there are several close-up images provided that offer a decent look at those spots in particular. Please take a moment to view the extensive photoset provided - preferably on a large screen desktop or laptop monitor, in order to get zoomed in close for the best examination of it's condition. We simply want the Buyer to have a realistic expectation of the condition of the Barrel Assembly when taking delivery. The Front Sight Blade is a Factory-Pinned Patridge type blade and the height of the sight blade is .165" (which was the "Standard" height of the once-available Patridge Front Sight Blades, versus the "considerably higher" .260" option that also existed). As for Compatible Models, to the best of our knowledge, this Barrel Assembly would only be a suitable replacement for the following models ONLY: - Model 686 No Dash (This was the original application for this Barrel, shipped approx. 1983 - 1984) - Models 686-1, 686-2, 686-3 and 686-4 should also be compatible, as the "Red Ramp" version of these Barrels differed only by the Sight Ramp, and the Red Ramp versions were compatible - in addition to the 686 No Dash - but also with the 696-1, 686-2, 686-3 and 686-4. DO NOT USE on a Model 686-5, 686-6 or later (Once the 686-5 came about, S&W changed the frame designs on these models - and later models - and we cannot offer any guidance or assurance of compatibility with the Listed Barrel Assembly. If you are seeking a Barrel for a 686-5, 686-6 or later Model, we strongly advise sourcing a Barrel that actually came from one of those later revolvers, to ensure depth of mount, bore-axis to cylinder axis are aligned, and forcing-cone to cylinder gap is proper. Again, we strongly advise NOT to use the Barrel in this listing for the Later Revolvers.)
