Leo S. Carty focused on the daily lives of Caribbean people in the Virgin Islands. Carty was born in Harlem and received a scholarship to the Museum of Modern Art School for Children when he was 10. He moved to St. Croix in 1976 where he lived until his death in 2010. His impressionist paintings depict the lives of every day people in the Virgin Islands--- families at church, women washing clothes and children at play. Works by Leo S.
