And the specially designed attaching screw and L-shaped tool for removing the cutting blade. The gears move freely without any drag which can shorten the life of your vintage sewing machine motor. The wire tension spring on the driving arm is intact. The flat wheel moves freely. The bed of the attachment is in good condition. The blade is sharp and cuts cleanly. A quality replica of the original instruction book is included. The original Singer box is intact but very rough shape showing age and wear. The specially designed mounting screw attaches from the right side of the presser bar (not the left). It is spring loaded and long enough to go through the presser bar and securely clamp your heavy Singer Pinking Attachment firmly. ~~~There are NO vintage substitutes for this specific purpose designed screw.Notice the curved shape at the left end of the screw?This curve allows the screw to fit snugly against the presser bar to secure your pinking attachment. It is important that there is no wobble during the pinking operation as this IS a heavy iron attachment. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Keeping your Singer Pinking Attachment oiled will reduce the risk of drag on your vintage sewing machine motor and extend the life of your Singer Pinker. Coffee filter paper makes a good storage wrap and oil soaker.The instruction manual does not adequately describe how to service or where to oil your Singer Pinker. Take a moment to look at the attachment carefully. Anywhere you see metal on metal movement, apply a drop of good quality sewing machine oil. You can't damage the attachment by oiling anywhere by mistake. ~~~ You will see oil ports on the main shaft of the driving arm and on the top of the attachment. Place a drop of oil on all of the screws, behind and in front of the cutting blade and behind the gears. Check for lint build up behind and around the cutting blade after each use. Tweeze or brush it out. Use a lint free cloth such as micro-fiber to wipe off excess oil. I let my oiled attachments sit on old cloths to absorb oil overnight. Coffee filters make great soakers when storing your oiled attachment. ~~~Pressure from the blade on the flat roller wheel is released by turning this screw with a wide blade hollow ground screwdriver. It can turn either way for a short distance. That is, the screw will turn until you cannot turn it anymore in either direction. Turning the screw clockwise tightens the blade against the flat wheel roller. Always loosen this screw before packing or storing your attachment. Sometimes this screw can be frozen in place if old tacky lubricant or rust has accumulated behind the surface. If the ball bearings inside are pitted, the wheel will not turn smoothly.Yours turns easily.~~~NOTE!!!Your Singer Pinking Attachment will be shipped to you with these two screws loosened. You will need to tighten both (red arrows). If the flat roller wheel screw is too tight, it may place strain on your machine motor. Too loose and it will not cut thoroughly. Adjust the screw to meet your needs (red arrows).Turn the flat roller screw clockwise to lift the roller against the blade. ~~~~~~~~~~~~To service the attachment or change the cutting blade, remove the blade guard and place the L shaped tool in the large main gear (red arrow). This locks the main gear allowing you to remove the thumb nut which releases the cutting blade. Notice the loosening direction on the thumb nut is clockwise (red arrow). Note: Before you remove the thumb nut screw to service your attachment or change the blade of your Singer Ball bearing Pinking Attachment, pay special attention to how each of the parts (the cutting blade, the fitted washer and the tiny round blade locking nub on the fitted washer) fit together, their order and which way they face on the threaded spindle tip of the large main gear. Remove thread remnants, debris and lint from the shaft of the main gear behind the blade. A Singer Ball Bearing Pinking Attachment produces a lot of lint during the cutting operation. Stray threads can spool around the end of the main gear behind the blade. Wipe off old grease from the shaft of the main gear and apply fresh lube (I like Sew-Retro Grease). Routine care will extend the life of your vintage Singer Ball Bearing Pinking Attachment and reduce the drag and strain on your vintage sewing machine motor.~~~Like my comments? They are included!
