If you would like additional photos or have specific questions just message me and I will respond ASAP.For your consideration is this antique 1920’s EMPTY Sinclair OPALINE 5 gallon rocker MOTOR OIL can Gas Advertising ANTIQUE 1920's. This is a really nice example of an authentic 1920’s era motor oil rocker can that presents well in any petroliana or oil can collection and display. Note; the oil can top currently installed on the can’s spout is NOT original to the piece. When I acquired the can it was without the top. I eventually found a correct period antique screw-on gas can top that fit on the spout. Since the metal on the cap acquired the same patina look and matched perfectly I was satisfied and proudly displayed the can as it currently exists today. In all honesty, and in my honest opinion, the noted top and rocker can look like the two pieces have been together for the past 100 years. The rocker can is made out of good old American steel and weighs approximately 8.0 pounds by itself. The overall measurements of the can are approximately 14.25” in diameter, 8-3/8” wide and 17.0” tall. Refer to description photos #18, #19, #20 and #21 to confirm the weight and size dimensions and for more details about what I have described. The oil can remains in very good overall physical condition. There are no serious large dents or holes on the sides or walls. The aforementioned notwithstanding, there are a few shallow unobtrusive dents on the bottom where the rocker can sits on the floor and subsequently received the brunt of the wear over the past century. Refer to description photos #8, #10 and #11 to confirm the noted dents and for more details about what I have described. The majority of the can’s surface retains the original green color around the outside perimeter. However, you will note; the center of the two side panels (left and right sides) has been covered over with black paint sometime in the distant past. This was done long before the can came into my possession so I have no explanation as to why that was done. The two center panels feature two colors that make up a 1.50” wide white border outer ring and a 10.50” diameter inner black circle in the center. Despite the black painted centers, the oil brand name “OPALINE” still remains “FAINTLY” visible on at least one side of the can for certain. It MAY also be present on the opposite side but if it it’s much hard to recognize and decipher. Refer to description photos #1, #3, #4 and #17 to verify the faint “Opaline” brand marking and for more details about what I have described. One side of the cans outside metal is embossed with (5) five lines of information that read as follows below. Refer to description photos #10, #11 and #12 to confirm the information and for more details about what I have described. “I. C. C – 39C” “STC” “25 5 30” “ST LOUIS CAN CO” “PAT MAY 10 1927” The opposite side of the can has (2) two lines of stenciled, approximately .50” high, black print that reads as follows below. It is unknown what this information references for certain but I surmise it may be referring to the viscosity or weight of the motor oil being 10W/30. Refer to description photos #10, #11 and #12 to confirm the information and for more details about what I have described. “F. C. 0 / 10 / 30” “D . 2063” There is one other issue I want to point out concerning the can’s pour spout. In all honesty, it appears to me the pour spout may have been repaired or at least re-welded sometime in the very distant past. Because I came to possess this can in its current condition, I cannot say with any certainty whether or not the pour spout is original and/or was repaired. In my honest opinion, either way, the spout looks good and represents well even if it turns out to be a period repair it only adds to the authentic character and eye appeal of the antique piece. Nevertheless, as a matter of fill disclosure, I absolutely wanted to bring the noted issue to your attention for further review and consideration. Overall, this beautiful antique rocker motor oil can is a very solid and fascinating example of petroliana and oil memorabilia from a bygone era in time.
