Description: 1945 SILVER JEFFERSON WAR NICKEL P-D-S MINT SET #S VG OR BETTER DETAILSDuring the early months of World War II the critical need for nickel and copper required the Treasury Department to decide upon a substitute for these now scarce elements used in the current five-cent coinage. On October 8, 1942 the new ‘nickels’ composed of 56% copper, 35% silver and 9% manganese were released into circulation. Over-sized mint-marks now appeared over the dome of Monticello, and this is the first time a “P” mint-mark was used on a circulating U.S. coin! These silver “nickels” were during WWII - and only from mid-1942 thru 1945.This lot contains three silver war nickels allow representation of all three of the then operating U.S. Mints - AND all are dated 1945! All three coins have Very-Good details.Note that with the spot price of silver at $32.00/ounce - each silver war nickel contains approximately $1.80 worth of pure silver! The photos I provide are scanned - gray or white specks on a coin are caused by something being on the bed of my scanner. Also, I try to provide large pictures - so keep in mind that my photos can make any imperfection appear much more serious than it really is. I suggest you compare the coins I offer to similar examples offered by others before making the decision to purchase any coin(s). Individual lots will be shipped separately via Ebay’s Tracked Standard Envelope policy. BUY IT NOW FOR $7.50 + $.70 SHIPPING Thanks for taking a look!
