Artwork created by Flygirl Painter (Shayne Meder) Length - 16 inches Made from Mahogany US Naval Aviator Owned Business Established on 25 September 1987 at NAS North Island, the "Saberhawks" began its illustrious history as Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light FOUR SEVEN (HSL-47), and employed the SH-60B helicopter. Since its inception, the Saberhawks have been at the forefront of helicopter operations in the Pacific Fleet. Under the Navy's Helo CONOPS "Bravo to Sea (B2C)" initiative, HSL-47 led the LAMPS Community's transition from traditional SH-60B expeditionary operations, to carrier based MH-60R operations. The Squadron joined the Broadsword team of Carrier Air Wing TWO (CVW-2) on 1 April 2004. On April 2, 2009, HSL-47 transitioned to Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 77 (HSM-77). The Saberhawks were attached the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN Strike Group and deployed with the MH-60R until August of 2012. Their outstanding reputation led to their selection to fight from the tip of the spear with Battle Force 7th Fleet. They now operate their specialized team of warfighters and advanced aircraft with Carrier Air Wing FIVE and the USS GEORGE WASHINGTON Strike Group. The insignia above represents the men and women who call themselves Saberhawks. The Ferruginous Hawk, a raptor indigenous to the southwestern United States, has represented HSL-47 since establishment. The saber is a traditional ceremonial naval weapon and symbol. The five stars represent the transition from LAMPS MK III to LAMPS MK V and the blue background reflects the Squadron color. The MH-60R brings search and rescue capabilities, communication relay, and can carry a potential payload of hellfire missiles and a crew-served 50-caliber machine gun to littoral combat ships. Additionally, the MH-60R is equipped with multi-mode radar that includes Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar and a forward looking infrared electro-optical device,.
