Description: Offered for purchase is a special commemorative pottery jug/pitcher by folk artist Steve Turpin. One side features a sculpted bunch of grapes. The other side features a crest with Foxfire 1966 - 2011. Foxfire magazine began in 1966, written and published as a quarterly American magazine by students at Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School. The magazine featured stories gathered from their families and neighbors about the pioneer era of southern Appalachia as well as traditions still thriving in the region. It is still in production. There is also a Foxfire museum and heritage center. The base is signed by Turpin and dated 2011 (photo 8). This is the first time I've seen a piece like this by Turpin - making this a unique offering. Approx. Dimensions: total height 11 inches; 4 inches wide (at widest point); it weighs over 3 pounds alone. Condition: Very good. There are no chips, cracks, or visible repairs. The base shows some scuffs and marks consistent with age and gentle use (photo 8). There are a few spots on the base that almost look like flea bite chips (photo 10), but I'm not sure. The inside of the piece may be a little dusty - I will leave any intense cleaning to the new owner. Please inspect ALL of the photos - they are part of the description.
