Description: RAY BRADBURY ~ R IS FOR ROCKET ~ FIRST EDITION, 1962 SIGNED by the author. Cover Art by Joe Mugnaini 17 stories; including two stories, R is for Rocket and Frost and Fire making their first appearance in book form. A bright, solid, Very Good+ copy in a Very Good+ to Near Fine dust jacket. Signed by the author on the title page (in a neat blue/purple pen). The Book: The corner tips of the upper and lower front board are lightly bumped; the lower corner is affected more than the upper. The rear board shows only minor wear to the corner tips. There is shelf wear, mostly at the lower, rolled, spine edge and lower boards. There is light rubbing at the upper spine and a thin one inch wrinkle to the blue paper binding on the rear board, it is a surface blemish, though worth a mention (photo 23). The outer boards overall presents beautifully, with the silver spine lettering absolutely brilliant! (photos 8-11). The interior front and rear paste-downs are clean and bright. At the upper edge of the rear endpaper (nearer the spine), there is a light thumb-nail crease and two very faint light brown spots. The text block is just off-white, with the pages still creamy and supple. The fore-edge of the text block has slightly yellowed, with faint dusting to the upper edge. The books 'perfect' binding remains firmly bound. The Dust jacket: A remarkable, well-preserved example of this vintage dust jacket, with the original $2.95 price intact. The colors remain vibrant, with no fading to the spine, or Joe Mugnaini's classic illustration. There are several short, very thin, marks on the spine where the blue has rubbed off. (photos 2 & 23). There is a tiny, one eighth inch closed tear at the fold of the lower right corner of the front panel . On approximately one inch of the upper rear panel, the white background has faintly tanned. The verso of the jacket remains clean, showing only mild tanning to the extreme upper edges of the jacket. There is one minuscule black spot at the lower left of the spine on the verso. A popular collection that was compiled by the author for young readers in 1962, featuring a gorgeous, vintage jacket illustration by Ray Bradbury's favorite artistic collaborator, Joe Mugnaini. The first edition has become quite uncommon to locate in collectable condition. A collectors copy, signed by the author. All hardcover books with dust jackets include a mylar protector. It was removed to more accurately photograph the book.
