Description: "HARLEKIN, MASKERADE", 1962 SIGNED ORIGINAL LIMITED EDITION COLOR LITHOGRAPH BY DANISH PAINTER, SCENEOGRAPHER AND ILLUSTRATOR SVEND JOHANSEN (1890-1970) This limited edition color lithograph, featuring two figures at a masquerade party, is hand signed an dated in pencil by the artist in the margin below the image lower right: Svend Johansen - 62, and annotated in the margin below the image lower left: Privat Tryk (Private Print). This color lithograph is printed on wove paper. The image measures 15 5/8 x 23 3/4 inches. With full margins, the sheet size measures 17 1/2 x 25 1/2 inches. The lithograph comes unframed. PLEASE NOTE CONDITION: There is a thin line pencil outline in the margins around the image possibly done by the artist, evidence of light toning (mat window open area), and the verso has paper tape remnants on all four edges, otherwise the lithograph is in very good condition, with no evidences of any damage to the image. Svend Johansen was born in Gentofte and attended the Copehangen Technical School where he met Poul Henningsen who became a friend and associate for the rest of his life. He studied painting at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1912 to 1916 under P. Rostrup Bøyesen. In 1919, he began an extended stay in France where he met Vilhelm Lundstrøm in Paris in 1922. Together with Karl Larsen and Axel Salto, Johansen and Lundstrøm settled in Bormes near Cannes, establishing the artistic group De Fire. They exhibited together until 1930. Johansen became a member of the Grønningen artists association in 1933. He produced posters for Grønningen, Tuborg and for the theatre. He contributed sketches to Politikens Magasin and illustrated books by Pierre Lou s, François Rabelais and Johan Herman Wessel. From 1924, he brought new life into stage decoration in Tivoli's Sommerteater, including cubic curtain patterns. For productions of Maskarade, Bortførelsen fra Seraillet and Slaraffenland, he not only designed striking stage sets but also provided the costumes. ________________________________ ATTENTION!
