Description: You are bidding on an author-signed and multiply autographed hardcover copy of The Crock of Gold, by the Irish novelist James Stephens (1880-1950), published in 1924 by the Macmillan Company (New York). The copyright page has a copyright date of 1912 and identifies this as an October 1924 reprint. 298 pp., 7.75" x 5.25" x 1". 2 lbs. 15 oz. No jacket (probably as issued). This copy is signed by the author in the front endpapers and inscribed "To Laflan Jones with the best wishes of James Stephens." The inside front cover bears an ex-libris for "Evan David Jones," so Laflan Jones is likely to be the renowned Welsh biographer, librarian, and editor E. D. Jones (1903-1987). Below Stephens's inscription, in Jones's own hand, is the following: "Mike—Some of your stories made me think of this, and thought you might like to have it. J.S. stayed at our house a day or two in '24 or '25. (Mrs. S. too.) Locked himself in the bathroom. Required mortal help to get out—which was fun for all." This is signed "LJ 6/81." The Mike referred to is the Irish-American (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) teacher and poet Michael M. Mooney (1939-2024), from whose collection this volume comes to me. The book is sturdy and clean and good for further readings. Other than inscriptions noted here, no other markings noted other. than pricing, in light pencil, in corner of front flyleaf.
