Description: This is a rare, hand signed, Harry Benson print which was sold during Magnum Photos & Aperture Foundation's Hidden Square Print Sale in November 2021. It is a photograph of Beatles member Paul McCartney during the filming of the Beatles’ first film, A Hard Day’s Night. Condition: Brand New/Mint. SIGNED The print is hand SIGNED on the back, the accompanying text label is attached to the back of the print and is of archival quality. Magnum Square Prints are printed on Fuji Crystal archive paper and come in an archival and protective sleeve. All prints are archival quality and are approved by the photographer. Magnum worked closely with photographers and estates to ensure that all editions were presented according to their intentions. Paper size: 6 x 6 in (15.24 x 15.24 cm) Image Size: 5.5 in (14 cm) on the longest side The print was issued in an un-numbered Limited Edition (limited to the number of prints purchased during the 7 days in which the sale was open to the public). It is sure to become a highly collectible photograph given the provenance linking it directly to the Magnum Photos collective and to the photographer. Text on the archival label attached to the back of the print: Paul. 1964. “My photograph of Paul was taken during the filming of the Beatles’ first film, A Hard Day’s Night. How did they come up with the film’s title? Ringo came on the set one morning looking disheveled and hung over and said, ‘It’s been a hard day’s night,’ and that was it. The movie opened in July 1964 and was a smash hit. Even the critics liked it. I spent a couple of days traveling with the Beatles on the train from London’s Paddington Station to and from Crewe in the British Midlands while they were filming. Beatlemania had swept the world, and there was hysteria wherever they went. In between takes in the filming, Paul would find an empty compartment on the train to relax quietly. I like this photograph because it is completely the opposite of the frenzy that had begun to surround them.” — Harry Benson The first photo is the image Magnum used during their sale, the second and third photos are of the actual print.
