A very attractive example of the first printing of the first edition. Nicely inscribed by the author to the title page (see picture). Original blue gilt cloth hardback with gilt titles to spine. 8.5 inches by 6.5 inches. 215 pages. Original endpapers. Illustrated throughout. The book is in attractive condition with some bumping and wear to the edges (see pictures). Binding sound and square. Light toning to prelims. A very nice example. Alfred C Fryer (1826-1912) was a renowned gentleman naturalist, specialising in pond weeds. He was a friend of Dante Gabriel Rosetti and other literary figures, and was a prolific author, probably best known today for "Vic: The Autobiography of a Pomeranian Dog".
