Telling the story of the Great British travelling fair from the late 1800s up to the late 1980s. Commencing with rare archive b&w silent film of early rides on the Town Moor in Newcastle, followed later by colour film of the fair in 1975, and the pull on and rides at the 1976 Goose Fair. Also Lincoln pleasure fair is seen in action in the 60s, together with some of the transport departing, including Charles Thurston's 'Hurricane' Jets loads! Lots of showmen's transport is seen on the move at many locations, including the large fairs at, Nottingham, Pinner, Kirkcaldy, Salisbury, etc. Firms such as Pat Collins, Heal's, Farrell's, Thurston's, Holland's, Wall's, Edwards', and Whitelegg's, are featured. Also the now vintage rides in action many of which no longer survive. Including the Noah's Ark's, Catterpillar, Ghost Train, Dodgems, Skid, Moonrocket, together with the side shows and supporting attractions. Plus a feature on fairground art by the late Fred Fowle. Showing close ups of the ornate artwork on Stanley Thurston's Ben Hur Ark. Together with still b&w and colour images of rides and old showmen's transport and living vans. A must for any fairground fan bringing back many happy memories of the good old days at the fair. Total running time approximately 105 minutes, supplied in a clear DVD case with no inlay sleeve. Reasonable allowances should be made for the playback quality of the rare archive film and video used in this DVD.
