Description: For sale is a New, never mounted Shimano LX- RD-M580 Rapid -Rise nine speed rear derailleur. I bought it new but never mounted as it seemed to precious. Would be perfect for your vintage bike build. Includes the rare rubber cover that protects the rear mech from hits and scrapes. Rapid-rise or low normal rear derailleurs have the opposite resting positions as a normal derailleur. When the gear cable is slack the derailleur rest on the biggest, easiest cog, not the smallest hardest cog which most derailleur’s default position is. I have like five rapid rise derailleurs, after reading about them from Rivendell. They’re super fun, but I can’t justify keeping a new one around. It makes shifting to easier gears when going up a hills quicker since the chain does not have to resist the return spring and gravity, but only the return spring.
